A Canvasback is among the larger ducks, similar in size to a Mallard. It has a long neck with a wedge-shaped head. Canvasback ducks have a black bill. The males sport a chestnut colored head and a black breast while females have a light brown head and neck. The Canvasbacks get their name from the color of their bodies which looks like Canvas.
When hunting Canvasbacks in Arkansas, you need to use the appropriate load and shot size. Their larger size makes them hard to bring down at times. A #4 steel shot or larger is recommended for these ducks. With their bronze head and canvas colored backs these ducks are fairly easy to identify. Our guides can help you with identification when hunting specific species.
